A lea of 120 yards is wrapped with a wrap reel, having 1.5 yard cisrcumference. The reel is fitted with a traversing mechanism that will minimise the bunching of yarn on the reel. These leas are relaxed on a skein holder and conditioned in the Standard atmosphere ( Temp. 27°C and R.H. 65%), for 24 hours. In the relaxed state 4 hours conditioning is sufficient.
Lea Strength: Breaking load is tested with a lea strength tester which gives the breaking load in lb (pounds) force, this lea strength ester is a pendulam type with constant rate of traverse, the moving clam operating at a uniform speed of 12 inches/minute.
After the strength is tested the same lea is taken and tested for cotton count with 'Auto Sorter'. The mean lea strength and the mean count are calculated after tests are completed.
The product of the lea strength in lbs and count (Cotton Count System) is the Count Strength Product (CSP).
