Textile Processing Technology

Pretreatment of Textiles
Pretreatment is the heart of textile processing. Grey cloth (yarn or fiber) contains numerous natural as well as added impurities which hinder the successful carrying out of subsequent processing steps like dyeing, printing and finishing.

In Pretreatment, all these impurities are removed and fiber is brought to a stage where it is more absorbent and white and can be easily processed.
Dyeing of Textiles
To understand the Dyeing of Textiles, we need to know something about the nature of the textiles themselves. Textile fibers are made from relatively simple molecules that under the right conditions join together to form long-chain molecules called polymers. These polymers in turn come together in one of a number of ways to form a fiber. With natural fibers nature has done the polymerization, while in the man-made fibers the chemistry of the fibers has been engineered in the laboratory to produce a fiber that feels nice, can be woven or knitted, and can be dyed.
Finishing of Textiles
The final operation in textile processing is finishing. Finishing imparts the required final feel, touch, softness, luster, handle and so many subjective qualities to the fabric or yarn. This treatment may either be a superficial coating or a permanently bonded chemical link. Generally the following all or some of the operations will be carried out during finishing process. viz., 1) Application of chemical finishes, 2) Drying wet textiles, 3) Curing chemical finishes and  4) Coating and laminating.

Some of the popular finishes are 1) softening finishes, 2) Hand building finishes, 3) Easy care and durable press finishes, 4) Repellant Finishes, 5) Soil-release finishes, 6) Flame-retardant finishes, 7) Non-slip finishes, 8) Antistatic finishes,9) Anti-pilling finishes, 10) Elastomeric finishes, 11) Finishes to improve color fastness, 12) Ultraviolet protection finishes, 13) Antimicrobial finishes, 14) Insect resist and mite protection finishes, 15) Finishing with Enzymes, 16)Anti-odour and fragrance finishes.
