General principles and conditions for pad application:
In fabric preparation processes only the first
application of chemicals is usually to dry fabric, i.e., Wet on Dry. Generally
fabrics are not dried between stages of production and chemicals are applied Wet
on Wet. The saturator should therefore, have adequate volume to provide
sufficient contact time between fabric and saturator liquor. This allows wetting
out of non-absorbent grey fabrics during Wet on Dry application and liquor
interchange in wet on wet systems. In contrast finishing chemicals are usually
applied to dry prepared fabrics and good chemical application can be obtained by
passing the fabric through a small pad trough prior to the mange bowls.

To obtain consistent chemical application the
following conditions should be met:
- Uniform nip pressure
- Uniform initial moisture content when
padding Wet on Wet.
- Consistent saturator liquor level.
- Consistent fabric speed.
- Consistent temperature
- Good liquor penetration and interchange.
