FAQ: Increase in depth of Cotton dyed goods without increasing the dyestuff concentration - Is it possible? Any colored object we see looks colored to our eyes due to the maximum reflection of the colors in the light source that falls on it. For example a white object reflects all the light that falls on it and looks whiter whereas an object appears black because it reflects no color and absorbs all the colors of the light that fall on it. Similarly intensity of the color also is due the intensity and amount of light reflected/absorbed by an object from light that falls on it. If you see a wet fabric, it looks very much deeper than the same dried fabric, because the water molecules in the fabric help reflect the maximum amount of color like a mirror. The same principle may be adopted for making a dyed fabric to appear deeper always. How is it possible? All amino-silicones emulsions, whether non-ionic or cationic, when sufficiently applied on the dyed fabric, imparts a soft handle and luster. The glossy appearance is due to the same mirror effect explained previously. Amino silicones form a permanent layer over the surface of the fabric locking a maximum amount of water molecules, making it to appear deeper, softer and glossy. By proper trials, you have to evolve at a suitable concentration of amino silicone. In addition, it is advised to check the wash fastness properties of the treated material.
